2024 marks twenty years of the Grand Seiko 9R Spring Drive calibre – a groundbreaking 2004 innovation with one-second-a-day accuracy. This watch movement is powered by a main spring with a regulator without an escapement, combining the beauty of the mechanical watch with the precision of quartz.
To celebrate this anniversary, this limited edition piece has been crafted with Grand Seiko signature inspirations of nature, perfectionism and heritage.
The design inspiration of the ‘Morning Glow of Hotaka Peaks’ is the red dawn near to the Grand Seiko studios, whilst the peaks represent not just the mountainous landscape, but also the Takumi watchmakers’ aspiration to create the peak of watchmaking. This Elegance piece depicts the vivid autumn glow at Karasawa Cirque, a bowl-shaped valley surrounded by the Hotaka Mountains, famous for its colourful autumnal foliage.
Under a box-sapphire crystal glass is a sunray patterned red dial, with silver coloured Dauphine-style hands. The dial features a power reserve indicator and a date feature at 8 o’clock, whilst the 9R65 automatic Spring Drive calibre is visible through its sapphire crystal glass case back. Accurate to +/- 1 seconds per day, this timepiece has a power reserve of three days.
