The ‘Snowflake’ dial used for the first time in 2005 was coloured with pale blue to image the snow from the Shinshu Watch Studio, the birthplace of Spring Drive. It has succeeded in realizing a designer’s idea of expressing the beauty of Shinshu on the dial and is characterized in the ‘Skyflake’ by a texture that shows a rough snow surface, which is caused by severe cold. This model is driven by a Grand Seiko’s unique Spring Drive calibre, uniquely pioneered by Seiko Watch Corporation’s watchmakers. Spring Drive generates energy like a conventional mechanical watch with a mainspring but combines this with an electronic regulator to deliver superior precision, never requiring a battery change. which combines the motive force of a mainspring with the high precision of a quartz watch. In Spring Drive, the second-hand moves in perfect glide motion, reflecting the natural and continuous flow of time itself. It has a 72-hour power reserve, and a power reserve indicator on the bottom left of the dial. The design embodies a pure classical elegance with a box-shaped sapphire crystal, Zaratsu polished lugs, and a blue steel seconds hand complementing the ‘Skyflake’ dial. Wearers of this watch can enjoy a clear view of the movement through the see-through case back. Grand Seiko: beautifully, precise Japanese watchmaking, from the pinnacle of Seiko Watch Corporation’s in-house manufacture. Every Grand Seiko features signature high standards of Japanese precision, durability and legibility, handcrafted by Takumi artisans.
