The dial design of this Hi-Beat timepiece has been designed to express the unique beauty of Japanese nature and culture in coexistence. Powered by the handcrafted in-house mechanical Calibre 9S86, its power reserve of 55 hours, accuracy rate of +5 to -3 seconds per day and GMT hand ensures high precision across multiple time zones.
The dial is inspired by Japanese autumnal scenery and traditional architecture where the landscape is reflected onto the floor in a picture projection of the outside world, inside. Over time, the floor in Japanese homes and temples becomes a reflective surface – creating a mirror image of the beautiful view outside. The colour gradations represent the changing of the seasons when the leaves turn red, whilst the vertical patterns symbolise the lacquered wooden floors.
‘The Nature of Time’ theme features prominently in Grand Seiko watch designs – Japan has a deep affinity with its natural environment, appreciating the way its beauty changes with the seasons. The watchmakers’ pride in their surroundings is represented from engineering watch movements which emulate the smooth motion of time passing, to creating dials reflecting the beauty of Japanese nature.
As a true ‘manufacture’ Grand Seiko incorporates the latest in-house technical developments alongside its breadth of craftsmanship in all watch movements – it is unique as the only vertically integrated manufacturer in the world to have mastery of all watchmaking techniques – mechanical, quartz and spring drive movements.
Grand Seiko mechanical watches exhibit a high consistency of functionality in every detail, with around 200 to 300 individual components adjusted by Takumi by hand to tolerances of one hundredth of a millimetre. This extremely detailed craftsmanship ensures the precise watchmaking delivered by the 9S mechanical movement.
